Disappointment: Cleveland Indians

Biggest MLB team surprises, disappointments in 2019

Like many other MLB teams, the Indians had to deal with injuries to impact players throughout 2019. Even though the rotation ended up with a 3.79 ERA and 17.9 fWAR as a unit thanks to guys like Shane Bieber and Mike Clevinger, Cleveland dealt with extended absences from both Corey Kluber and Carlos Carrasco. And while he turned it on in the second half, Jose Ramirez wasn’t himself prior to the All-Star break.

At 94.7%, they had the third-highest preseason playoff odds and still couldn’t find a way into the postseason because of their own slow start and a fast one from the Minnesota Twins (who we’ll get to in a second).

The Indians watched their postseason odds go from 94.7% all the way down to 26.8% by the start of June before heading back north and getting as high as 94.6% in the middle of August. As we can see, that was as high as that percentage would get before diving all the way to zero.
