Evaluating Bryce Harper’s potential free-agent landing spots

MLB: Washington Nationals at Colorado Rockies

New York Yankees

The Bronx Bombers just traded for James Paxton and plan to continue focusing on pitching in the immediate future. If general manager Brian Cashman does make a huge free-agent splash for a position player, it seems more likely to be for Machado than Harper.

Manny could man shortstop while Didi Gregorius is on the disabled list, and there just aren’t enough spots in the outfield and at designated hitter to accommodate Bryce. The current roster includes Brett Gardner, Aaron Judge, Aaron Hicks, Stanton, and Jacoby Ellsbury, along with Clint Frazier.

While Harper doesn’t appear to fit on the Yankees, Cashman recently said he hasn’t ruled it out yet, which includes potentially getting creative — like putting him at first base. So, there’s still a chance for the Yankees to be the Yankees. They’re probably still a little mad about the Boston Red Sox winning another World Series, ya know.
