I’m on vacation w family, didn’t watch every play. Saw pockets. Won’t be able to watch replay until Monday night to review everything.
1) Frightening how this team cannot stay healthy.
2) Flowers was the pick at 9. You can see his upside potential when he overpowers the opposition when run blocking.
2a) Pugh looked solid at G. If he does well, it will be salvageable to see a R1 19th overall become a solid G. No cartwheels but acceptable. Contrast this with Scherff at 5, or Giants taking him at 9. There were risks and question marks for him as a T. To watch Scherff having already gotten beat out in practice by a 2nd year T who started a single game as a rookie is bad. He did not look good at G either. He may end up being a solid G. It was just a mistake too risk so much at 5 or 9 for him.
3) Eli and the WRs all stunk. They’ll get it cleaned up before long, less worried about it right now, but nonetheless still very sloppy.
4) Geoff Schwartz looked like he was playing on egg shells. I don’t understand how we are still waiting for an ankle injury to heal from 9 months ago.
5) JT Thomas was very active.
6) The defense could not stop stop the run, even when they knew Jags were running it. This is much more disconcerting than anything else I saw.
7) Don’t let the final score confuse you, the Gmen still looked anemic. I suppose you can claim some kind of victory for not letting them in the end zone, but beyond that, not a lot to be excited about. Jags dropped a lot of balls and missed enuf opptys themselves.
8) The small ball of Vereen out of the backfield looks good/promising.
9) Anyone with any experience having played Defensive Back in high school or college can send their name to Jerry Reese for a tryout. What the heck, if you played DB in intramurals, that’ll be ok too. If your temperature is 98.6 degrees you’re in.
10) Summary: Giants played better than last week’s dreadfulness. But there wasn’t a whole lot to be inspired by either. The OL looked a little better, but the team doesn’t look crisp.
