With a new CBA in place, the free agent signing period will begin. Speaking about free agent activity, New York Daily News’ Ralph Vacchiano and Newark Star Ledger’s Mike Garafolo examine the Giants free agency scenarios.
Will the Giants re-sign Ahmad Bradshaw?
Will Osi Umenyiora be given a new contract?
Will the Giants revamp their aging offensive line?
Who will the Giants unload?
Will the Giants sign a linebacker?
Is Kevin Boss going to be resigned? Or will the Giants ink a free agent TE?
Before we can delve into these questions, right now, the Giants have a salary cap dilemma. According to ESPN’s John Clayton, the Giants are 11 million dollars over the salary cap. And Ralph echoes Clayton’s report: the Giants are over the salary cap. However, Clayton points out if the Giants shed Shawn Andrews salary, the Giants would free up 7.3 million. Look for the Giants to dump Andrews and other veterans to clear up cap space. Thus, this would pave the way for the Giants to sign some of their own players as well as unrestricted free agents. Indeed, Giants GM Jerry Reese has his work cut out for him. In the coming days, before he sniffs around at signing other teams players, he has plenty of work and a short window to reshape his current roster.
