Houston Nutt Anniversaries During Ole Miss/Arkansas Week

With Ole Miss and Arkansas set to play in two days, it's fitting that a couple of Houston Nutt-related anniversaries fall during this week.  The first of which is to be celebrated today, as two years ago to the day, Houston Nutt was told that he would not coach Ole Miss in 2012.

However, because WHO KNOWS WHY, he was allowed to coach the last three games of the 2011 season against Louisiana Tech, LSU, and Mississippi State.  His brief farewell tour was such an inspiration to the team that he lost all three games by a combined score of 110-13.

The highlights of the farewell tour included LSU taking a knee four straight times on Ole Miss' 1-yard line, starting with 5:10 to play, and the final six plays of the Houston Nutt era at Ole Miss being runs by Enrique Davis, which proved Nutt does indeed know what trolling is.

But there was another, more soul-crushing anniversary related to Nutt and Arkansas that took place this week.  It was 12 years ago today that Ole Miss fans were four days removed from watching David Cutcliffe lose to Houston Nutt in seven overtimes in Oxford.

At the time, it was the most overtimes played in NCAA history, at any level of football.  And it was a game that essentially ended Ole Miss' season, as the Rebels, who were 6-1 coming into the game, never recovered, as David Cutcliffe teams in November do not, and finished 7-4, with no bowl appearance.

BUT ENOUGH ABOUT DAVID CUTCLIFFE'S FAILURES AS A COACH AT OLE MISS BECAUSE I COULD GO ON FOR YEARS.

Let's remember what, for Ole Miss fans, is the only enjoyable part of this anniversary:  Houston Nutt's reactions to Arkansas touchdowns in the overtimes.

1st Overtime

A STRONG START FROM HOUSTON WITH THE CROUCH-POINT-FINGER-WAG.

3rd Overtime
Both Ole Miss and Arkansas missed field goals in the second overtime, which should have been a sign that hell was on its way to our door.

Note that Houston Nutt is totally unaware he has to go for two here.  A sprinting Mark Markuson, apparently in charge of when to go for two, informs Nutt he needs to come up with a play.

4th Overtime

5th Overtime

What a gross neglect of his or her duties by ESPN's producer.  How they didn't get a shot of Houston Nutt post-touchdown is an outrageous injustice.

6th Overtime (with two-point conversion reaction!)

Oh, that was almost Houston at his peak right there, brother.

7th Overtime (with two-point conversion reaction!)

"LET'S GO, BABY.  JUST ONE MORE STOP, RIGHT HEEYAH!!"

Reaction to Win

So, on this anniversary day, remember, David Cutcliffe is the worst, Houston Nutt reactions are the best, and Matt Jones, HOLY SWEET MOSES, WHAT A HARVESTER OF THE SOULS OF THE OLE MISS DEFENSE.
