Sloppy football continues for the NY Giants. 7 penalties in the first half. 2 turnovers lead to 10 points. Missed timeout costs them 2 snaps for the end zone at the end of the first half. And 4th & 1 at the opponent’s 40, you go for it, but they don’t. Every snap for Eli seems to be chaos in the backfield, with the Offense looking dysfunctional and disorganized.
Stop apologizing for OBJ. Whether it is emotions, or just plain headcase, he is out of control. In 2014 it was OBJ vs Alec Ogletree. In 2015 it was OBJ vs Josh Norman. In 2016 it is OBJ vs Xavier Rhodes. Guess what- it is plain and simple OBJ. It is not the refs or opponents targeting him. He brings it on himself. One person compared him to Terrell Owens. Pretty accurate, as the combination of talent and lack of composure haunted this player and will haunt the Giants if OBJ cannot get it under control.
The NY Giants Defense does not have a single turnover in 4 games. The Giants are net -8 turnovers this season. That is fugly.
No defensive pass rush. Crickets. And that is Vernon and JPP going up against 2 backup Offensive Tackles. Yes, Vernon was active with some pressures and hits, but the team needs more.
Richburg was manhandled by Linval Joseph.
No short yardage run game. None. Then again, that hasn’t changed in years.
Yes, the Giants are decimated by injuries in the secondary. When you start guys like Hunter, Wade, and Adams it is going to be trouble. Trevin Wade was picked on all game. Why aren’t the Giants picking on the matchups they are getting vs their 3-headed monster?
Casillas.. with a missed open field tackle on 2nd & 18, which enables a TD drive to make it 14-0, else they are off the field. That play and the Dwayne Harris special teams fumble were two plays that dug an insurmountable hole. I am struck at how bad that play by Casillas was. This is the Giants answer at LBer. This is a “team captain.” This is always the Giants answer at LBer. The play is like a turnover, because instead of the Giants getting off the field (should be 3rd &15), Adam Thielen (who?) rumbles for 18 yards and a first down. Adam freaking Thielen. Journeyman. Two starts and 17 receptions in the past two seasons. Casillas is behind Thielen with more than an adequate angle. But Thielen makes him miss. The Giants LBer is faked out of his jock strap. Call it a missed tackle. I call it poster child of NY Giants LBers for almost a decade. In a game of a million botched plays, this one killed me.
Carl Banks at halftime: “The Giants are undisciplined.”
McAdoo’s mistakes are wearing thin on a lot of Giants fans. I am trying to give him a year’s grace, but even I am a little frustrated with Eli checking out of plays and not getting the ball into the hands of Cruz, Shepard and OBJ. In the dome, you cannot be audibling every snap. That is on the head coach. Ed Valentine of Big Blue View accurately pointed out that the Head Coach has his face in the play card and needs to be managing the game. So there are a lot of problems which I cannot begin to list without being up all night.
About the only moment of optimism all evening was the screen pass catch and run by rookie Paul Perkins. Sad, but that was the entire sum of the offense all night. The Vikings have a good defense. But the Giants offense was consistently .. inconsistent. Eli is going backwards now. His play is suffering. He has no confidence in his OL, and it seems to be flowing from there.
You are what your record says you are. The Giants are 2-2. Well deserved. Not ready for prime time.
