MINN 49 NYG 17

It was right around this time 23 years ago when the Giants were dressing up a 5-9 season with the Chiefs on NBC on a Saturday afternoon in December.  It was the 15th game of the season.  And the color commentator, Bob Trumpy, was the resident apologist for Ray Handley.  Trumpy was feeding the masochistic Giants fans who were (still) listening to all of this garbage about how good Handley was. How Handley was getting a bad rap.  How the Giants should keep Handley.

Well, this was deja vu all over again.  NBC- check.  Giants on their way to a 6-10 record- check.  Head coach on the hot seat with one more game to play- check.  Color commentator defending the head coach.  Check again.

Please stop insulting our intelligence, Cris.  The Buffalo Blogger (Joe Pinzone) on our Bloguin network said it best, and considering he is impartial, it is worth replaying his tweets.

Thank you Joe for giving us a reality check that the Emperor has no clothes and that we do not have to accept underachievement.

JOHN MARA ALREADY PUT THE WHOLE SHOP ON NOTICE A FREAKING YEAR AGO. December 30, 2014.
Reporter: “Would you describe next season as a win-or-else proposition for a lot of people in this franchise?”
John Mara: “I don’t think that’s an unfair statement.”

So forgive us foolish fans, Mr. Collinsworth, if we do not accept your continuity garbage about keeping Coughlin on. It is the 4th year of underachievement.  We got to see the Emperor swimming naked out there with the OBJ/playoffless Giants tide moving out. And it was not pretty. I put a bag over my head in Q2.  Thankfully I did not have to watch as much of the stinkfest as my fellow Giants masochists.

In terms of doing a recap, OBJ was suspended, the Skins won the division, the Giants were out of it and most of the players mailed it in.  Jennings and Ayers were notable in making some plays, but other than that, it was another dumpster fire we’d rather forget.  As a group, the team was a no show.  My father, who has seen/heard Giants football dating back to practically their inception, called their effort “listless,” adding that “they did not want to play.”

I am a little torn by McAdoo.  He has made good strides with Eli, but he must have sh*t for brains if he keeps using Williams in a 4 RB rotation. Williams is a reserve.  Jennings (as long as he does not fumble) and Vereen (line him up EVERYWHERE) need to be featured predominantly.  On a night like this when the offense was suffering the absence of Odell, you have to use Vereen at every position.  H-back, wideout, tailback, pass catching of flares and screens.  Everything. On the field every play.

This season is such torture. Since misery loves company, at least we have fellow Giants sufferers to try to laugh through the lowlights. Hearing people like Trumpy and Collinsworth patronizing us is a little too much.  While we would have preferred change a year or two ago, we were realistic to understand that that was not the way the loyal Maras operated.  So we did not lobby.  This year we will be very disappointed if major changes are not made because it was Mara himself who put the administration on notice. Stay tuned to our posts this Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday listing reasons for showing Coughlin, Reese and Barnes the door.  One of our points notes poor decision-making by Coughlin.  What this game reminded me about is how Coughlin must really be taken to task for having Eli out there with ~4-5 minutes left and the Giants down 42-10.  Was he trying to get the franchise QB injured when the team was down by 4 scores and the game was out of reach??? … Unless of course you are the Eagles + DeSean playing vs Tom.. oh right, that was only 21 points.

Last year Mara said he was grateful no one asked him any questions after the Jacksonville loss.  Hey media, ask Mara what he’s thinking right now.  Maybe it won’t be as patronizing as Collinsworth and Trumpy.//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
