No JPP Deal

I’m shocked. Not.

We expressed our doubts here on this NY Giants blog and thru Twitter of the chances for a deal. It was not complicated. How is a less than 100% operable hand going to help a DE to generate $14.8MM in production?! The only reason why there would be an agreement is if JPP and the Giants were going to see eye to eye on his timetable plus effectiveness. Considering that this player was the first NY Giants franchise tag in 23 years > 8 days in length (all others were quickly negotiated into full deals), why were we going to see JPP’s leopard change his spots? His physical condition and negotiating leverage deteriorated. He’s more than a day late and a lot more than a dollar short.

Then yesterday we get word JPP is going to be in a cast for more than a few games. As if 9 fingers was easy to use against OLmen, now it was going to be 5 fingers. Good luck with that.

UltimateNYG sat in on the negotiations between NYG & JPP.

NYG: We’ve reviewed your medical and don’t see how you’ll be ready to play for a while.

JPP: I’m ready.

NYG: Well, yes, we know you think you are ready. But we’re talking about two different things.

JPP: I’m ready!

NYG: Yes. We understand.

JPP: Great. I’m ready. I’m ready to sign my franchise tag deal so I can play.

NYG: Son, that ship sailed a long time ago. We can’t offer you that kind of deal anymore.

JPP: Why not? I’m ready!

NYG: For starters, you won’t be able to play with a cast and make an impact. And then after that, you won’t be able to play without a cast and make an impact.

JPP: I will be able to play. I’m ready.

NYG: How much money do you want to play in 2015?

JPP: $14.8MM. I’m ready to sign.

NYG: Uhhh. No. We cannot pay that kind of money for a busted hand, no clarity on run stopping, no clarity on pass rushing, no clarity on when you will know the new Spags play book, no clarity on when you’ll be able to play, and no clarity on your ability to make impact plays.

JPP: Is that your only beef? I’m ready.

NYG: I guess we aren’t close on a deal.

JPP: I flew up here because I was ready for 16 game checks.

NYG: We’re not ready.
