NYG 32 WAS 21

Leave it to the Redskins to provide relief for the Gmen. Just what the doctor ordered. Kirk Cousins is a caretaker QB who cost his team 7(INT)+4(wide open TD under thrown)+ underthrows Garcon+ 4(can’t hit open Receiver in end zone on 6 man blitz). He was the gift that kept on giving. A better QB will abuse the Giants… but that’s ok because the Giants are learning. They’ll get faster. The Giants bought themselves a week (oops, 10 days!) of time and experience courtesy of Washington.

GOOD

Jennings punt block for Safety

Amukamara Pick into red zone

Randle sightings for first down in red zone, 30 yd pass, moving sticks, moving sticks again, 40 yd TD (wow is that Huge when Cruuuuz is back)

Wynn stop on 3rd & 1

Landon Collins gaining experience, breaks up TD pass. It’s ‘on the job’ training.

Fells pretty catch

OBJ is such a phenomenal force. I know that this blog has said everything it can and used up every superlative. I know that we say there is no hyperbole for him. And yet he still makes so many awesome plays. Manning throws a completion to him in triple coverage w a Safety over the top. That’s quadruple coverage. Words just can’t do it justice. He’s the best talent the Giants have had since LT, that’s the best I got. He must prioritize his health.

O-line kept Eli clean

Whitlock 2-way player. I honestly don’t recall the last time the Giants had a 2-way player in my lifetime (..started watching in late 60’s). For sure, we’ve seen some gimmicks like Carson on specials and scoring a TD. But O & D?

BAD

Harris muff on punt return

2nd Red zone possession

UGLY

No pass rush (w/o blitz)

easy drop by Donnell in red zone (4 pts)… Can this guy catch a ball w/o somersaulting?

Kickoff return for TD

SUMMARY: No, it’s not fantasy football that the Giants have plenty of hope. The reality is that w Cruz coming back and maybe Flowers and Beatty soon, that the Giants offense can outscore the opponent. Just because they were boobs in W1-2 doesn’t mean it can’t be done. Why? The NFL is mediocre and all you have to do is peak at the right time. See the last post, which talks about how probable it can be with a weak NFC East. There are no great teams in the NFL. There are good teams that can have bad days (think Packers in Divisional Round January 2012) courtesy of a team playing well. Is the pass rush a problem? Yes. That’s where Cruz and OBJ come in. Outscore’m.
