Old School is Failing the NY Giants

A friend I know bumped into an NFL player, which we will only identify as a former first round draft pick.  He asked the NFL player if he was aware of the NY Giants injuries and why they are struggling with so many of them.

“From what I hear from teammates and friends around the league, the word is that the Giants are ‘old school,’ said the NFL player.  “They are heavy into the weight training.  But they don’t do the flexibility.  On our team we don’t do it that way at all, we are all about flexibility.”

It should not surprise you that this player plays for a team that has been in the top half of (fewer) injuries in the NFL over the past 6 years.  Fewer injuries.  Flexibility training.

For the skeptics out there, go right ahead and dismiss that this player is merely parroting the words of Walter Thurmond.  BUT you still get another source which separately and independently supports the difference about flexibility training.  Range of motion.  Nowhere in Thurmond’s remarks did he specifically discuss conditioning techniques.  This NFL player does, and it supports EVERYTHING we have been saying for the past year.

I spoke with another fitness instructor, Kesley, about these injury issues this past weekend.  She completely supported the critical need for enhanced flexibility training to significantly reduce the chance for muscle injuries.
