Random thoughts before Dallas this evening

We have previewed the game.  We have listened to Simms.  Bring on Dallas!

Three items today.  (1) Some final thoughts on Dallas  (2) Some reminders about Philly (3) Deon Grant at quasi-LBer.

(1) A few weeks ago I was of the mind that the Giants had no chance in this game.  Now I really think this game could go either way.  So much depends on which Dallas team shows up.. the one that spit razor blades at the Texans or the one that shot themselves in the foot everywhere else.

People who challenge the Cowboys and do not believe they have talent have not watched them carefully.  The talent is there.  And if you do not believe that, listen to just a few numbers.

Dallas is #3 in the league in Yds/Game.

Dallas is #4 in the league in lowest Yds/Game given up on Defense.

But the reason why Giants fans cannot be too intimidated by these numbers is that the Giants are #7 and #2 in the league in those two categories.  So let’s get a little self-respect here and realize that the Giants are doing enough good things out there to be competitive in this game.  IF THEY SHOW UP BIG.

Dallas is going to be focused.  They should be ready, concentrating, not making the mental errors that have cost them GAMES.

But Dallas does have OL problems.  And the Giants have been playing well at DL.  Get after Romo.  And adjust if Romo/Garrett adjusts to the pressure.

This is the moment to be tight on special teams, no leaky mishaps.  This is the time to be clean with the ball, Mr. Dodge, no more adventures.  This is the time to be crisp at LBer, Mr. Goff, no leaky coverage of the RBs out of the backfield.  This is the time to be accurate, Mr. Manning, four quarters of high efficiency offense.

If I were Coughlin, I’d tell my players that I am giving them an extra 4 days off if they win this game. (They generally do something like that anyway.)  I came here to bury Dallas, not to praise them.  The Giants are coming to Dallas to take sole possession of first place* in the NFC East.  And to bury Dallas.

(2) * Kenny Britt and the Titans stuck it to Philly yesterday.  The guy has off the field issues, was benched in Q1, plays for an offense that runs the ball, but his 3 TDs KO’d Philly.  L-O-V-I-N-G it.  You guys may truly hate Dallas, but I truly hate Philly.  Oh by the way, here are the words of Andy Reid:

“When you have the opportunities to put a team away, you have got to do it. You can’t give good teams an opportunity to survive when you have their back against the wall and we did that.”

Put teams away when you are ahead.  DOUBLY IMPORTANT, PUT GOOD TEAMS AWAY WHEN YOU ARE AHEAD BECAUSE THOSE ARE THE TEAMS THAT WILL COME BACK.

(3) Last week we talked about Deon Grant playing “quasi LBer.”  Yesterday, Garafolo wrote up more on the topic.
