It is looking more and more like we will be playing football this fall, ladies and gents. Word of an agreement on the rookie wage scale has made it through, and that is a big positive for getting a complete agreement. We have been pretty clear about what an insanity the rookie wage scale was. So to see them go to a shorter contract makes complete sense. To watch JaMarcus Russell get a massive booty without playing a single snap in the NFL while the other 95% veterans put their lives at risk without it makes no sense. Not all of the details of the new scale are out yet, but it is a big step in the right direction. It is also a good development for weaker teams, since now their #1-#10 pick is not the (salary black hole) albatross it once was. So this is a big positive for all, a loss for the elite college player who now needs to show up and deliver a little more. Good for the vast majority of players, good for the owners, good for the fans. Good.
