Wonder has completed his assessment of the defensive players of this years players. Let’s compare the value by position from 2011 versus 2010.

It is clear that there is a huge deficiency at Safety year over year from 2010. That number deficiency is replaced by the surplus of projected talent at DE and DT. Combined between the 2 DL positions you have an increase of 6 players from 2010 who have a rating of 3 or higher. There is significant pick value with DT in 2010 at 37 (for those with a 3 rating or better) and DT in 2011 at 30. Finally, statistically DE is not even close in value with an average pick value at 45 in 2010 vs an average pick value in 2011 at 27.
For those teams with a need on the DL your risk-reward is more favorable. Unfortunately for the Giants the value and depth of the Linebacker class is once again not a strong one in a year of undeniable need. We simply need to remember that there are R1 choices and that the Daryl Washingtons who slide to R2 are going to be there as well.
Summary: Safety is deficient in this draft. Defensive Line has a lot more talent than last year. While LBer is weak again, there are still players available for the teams who prioritize the position.
