ProFootballTalk picked up on a story from an interview with Walter Thurmond. Thurmond notes that Coughlin isn’t a fan of new-age medical practices. Alas, by accident we get anecdotal information on the comparison of strength & conditioning practices of 3 organizations.
We have been contending for quite some time that there is a structural problem with injuries for the NY Giants franchise. Now we have a player who is able to see first hand what the differences are and talk about it. He wouldn’t have talked about it if he were still playing for the Gmen. Yes, we will get the detractors who will argue that Thurmond is just talking his side of the story, one where he was hurt again and missed 14 games due to injury. But you have to connect the dots…

Note the huge gap between 30 and 31. That huge gap is more evidence that NYG and IND are not part of the mainstream on this problem. And that is what Thurmond is talking about. Finally we have a smoking gun, an observation from Thurmond that Coughlin has not been staying with the times and adapting. How many of you out there think that a S&C coach all the way back from the Jaguars days is the guy to bring in the 21st Century techniques required to right this ship? Considering the NY Giants have lost its LT Beatty until November and their star WR is already hobbled with a (second) hamstring here in 2015, I wouldn’t say he is that guy. According to Thurmond, the problem now is pointing squarely on Coughlin, who needs to stop digging and go in a different direction.
