So it’s been a little over seven years since I’ve started blogging. Finally, you now have a good reason to read this nonsense.
One of you is going to have a free DVD.
I’m giving away a copy of the New York Mets 50 Greatest Players DVD, a production of A&E Entertainment in conjunction with MLB Productions, to one of you lucky readers. Here’s what you have to do: I’m going to give you a quiz, but I’m going to do it a little differently. It’s not your traditional baseball trivia quiz. It’s more like a scavenger hunt, if you will. I’m presenting you with a series of questions about things that I’ve written in this blog. If you read my blog regularly, then first off … what’s wrong with you? And second, you might know the answer to a lot of these questions off the top of your head. And if you can do that, see the part about “what’s wrong with you”. But you’ll also win this fabulous DVD.
If you don’t read this blog reguarly (all of you), it’s still very easy to win the DVD, as all of the answers to these questions can be found by searching through key terms in this blog’s search engine (or on your regular run of the mill search engine, but what’s the fun in that?) It takes a little research, but if you want this super cool free DVD, it’s well worth it.
First person to answer all the following questions correctly by putting them in comment form at the bottom of this blog (helps with determining who is first) will get the DVD shipped to them. One caveat that I cannot stress enough: The winner must have a valid mailing address in either the Continental United States (which means sorry to all my legions of fans in Alaska and Hawaii that haven’t become Yankee fans yet) or in Canada (because you’re going to need something to watch without the N.H.L. for the first few months of the season … I hope not more than that).
Here are the eight questions you must answer (eight for the guy leaping into Jesse Orosco’s arms on the cover). Pay close attention:
- What Mets road trip did I chronicle in person in 2012? (I’ll except city name or team name.)
- During that road trip, which 70’s era Met did I get an autograph from?
- Who won the 2011 Hall of Hate vote?
- Which visiting outfielder was heckled non-sensically by a fan at Citi Field in 2011, who serenaded him with references to the post office, and a record store?
- Which one time Astro did I refer to as “Lieutenant Leslie” in 2012?
- Recite the fortune in my fortune cookie during a recent Mets loss.
- I referred to a Florida Panthers player in the title of one of my 2012 posts. Name him. (There’s your hockey reference, Canada.)
- What former Met did I annoy by snapping a flash photo right in his eyes at a Pergament during the 1989 off-season?
So there you go. Answer those eight questions in the comment section, and live in the Original 48 or the Great White North (sorry again, Swaziland), and you have yourself a DVD. No more hints. And if you don’t win fear not … this isn’t the last DVD I’ll be giving away. So keep an eye out on this blog the rest of the season along with my twitter account. There may be a DVD giveaway there too (hint: go with yes.) The winner will receive further instructions.

UPDATE: And just like that, it was over. FredSolomon, a long time reader of this blog, got all the correct answers within ten minutes. Nice work crushing everybody, and you get the DVD. Send a shipping address to [email protected] and the DVD will be shipped out to you.
To those who lagged behind, there will be another shot to win a great DVD. Keep an eye on the blog and on my twitter for more details. And congratulations Fred.
