Dillon Gee depends on painting the corners with his fastball. When he paints beautifully, it's like a really good impressionist. When he does what he does against the Tigers today, it looks more like an Oliver Perez impression. That's not good for anybody.
Gee walked four in two innings, hit two batters, and gave up a dinger to Matt Tuiasosopo for a total of six runs in two innings in a 9-1 loss to the Tigers. (And yes, that's the same Matt Tuiasosopo who was in the Mets farm system last season. And yes, he's related to … Micah Owings. Who'd ya think I was going to say?) Gee wasn't even painting. He was just opening up cans of paint, flinging the paint, then flinging the can. It was all kinds of awful out there for Dillon, so thank goodness this game was in Port St. Lucie and not Detroit. And thank goodness Prince Fielder had a flat tire on the way to Port St. Lucie or it might have been a whole lot worse.
Gee's next start may come Wednesday against Houston, which would be fine because there's nobody in that lineup you'd need to wish a flat tire upon.
