New York Mets Look For Boost; Call Up Top-Hitting Prospect Michael Conforto

It’s been well documented that the New York Mets’ offensive struggles are hindering their postseason chances—a chance that has the perception of being wasted due to their young, overpowering pitching staff that somehow has the Mets trailing by only three games behind the division-leading Washington Nationals—but Mets management has finally made a move to bolster the lineup.

Although the move was forced by a disabled list stint for Michael Cuddyer, the Mets called up top-hitting prospect Michael Conforto to the big leagues from Double-A Binghamton to enter the starting lineup against the Los Angeles Dodgers this evening. Cuddyer and the Mets did everything they could to avoid the disabled list, but after three weeks of sitting in and out of the lineup, the decision was finally made to let him sit out and heal up.

The 22-year-old Conforto was selected in the first-round draft of the 2014 MLB Draft. At Binghamton, Conforto hit .312 with five homers and 26 RBI in 45 games. With baseball coming into the playoff stretch, it’s now or never for the Mets, who look to make a move towards the top of the division.

Mets fans from anywhere can get to Citi Field with Hipmunk.com, where cheap airline tickets can be booked in a few clicks. The Mets began their four-game set with the Dodgers last night, where Clayton Kershaw pitched a gem, winning 3-0 while flirting with a perfect game before a Curtis Granderson single. The most expensive game remaining in the series is tonight’s game on July 24, and with good reason. The expectations for Conforto are probably already too high, but that won’t stop fans from coming to the ballpark to see their homegrown outfielder.

7/31/2015 | New York Mets vs. Washington Nationals | Citi Field | Average Price: $77.98 | Get-in Price: $15

The Mets have another chance to chip into the Nationals’ division lead on the last game of the month. The Mets spoiled their last golden opportunity in Washington due to the ineffectiveness of Bobby Parnell, who had been spectacular beforehand. Losing two out of three in that series hurt, but the Mets get another chance next week. Fans close enough to make a road trip to Citi Field can take in multiple games of the series by finding hotel deals on Hipmunk for the New York City area.
