David Perron is having a career year in his first season with the Edmonton Oilers. He’s managed 22 goals, which is a career high at just 56 games in, 20 assists for 42 points. His single season high in points is 50 which he did in 81 games. He’s on pace this year for 64 at seasons end, and personally I think he might be able to get 70 if he hits a hot streak like he’s shown he can do.
That being said, I wonder if MacT is involving his name in trade talks? Buy low sell high. You would have to think that MacT would be able to get a decent return for Perron. Maybe that top 4 defenceman, maybe a big power forward.
I’m not sure the Oilers trade a player that has been one of the best this season, plays with gritensity (I maybe just made that up, or I may have read it somewhere before) and has the ability to make the players around him better.
Here’s the thing, Eakins is trying Hemsky out at left wing, why? Is it to showcase Hemmer for a possible trade, or is it to see if they can risk losing a guy like Perron. Perron and Hemsky may be two completely different players, but the former definitely has more value in a trade.
There is going to be a lot of talk the next 9 days leading up the trade deadline. The Oilers scouts are out watching other teams, MacTavish and company are busy working the phones, and even the coach mentioned today that “there aren’t many guys in our room who are untouchable.”
Gotta wonder if Perron is one of those guys or not. He hasn’t been mentioned by any of the big name media fellows in the Oilers trade rumors, so its hard to say at this point. If I were MacT I’d keep him around, in fact I’d be looking for more David Perron’s. But if bold is the word of the year then I’d wager a guess that DP57’s name might just in fact be out there. What do you think? Is it possible? Comment below.
