Here’s to Some More Winning….

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.jsWell said Ebs.

This worlds championships was a coming out party so to speak for two of the Oilers best players. Jordan Eberle and Taylor Hall found themselves flanking arguably the best player in the world in Sidney Crosby and made the most of the opportunity. Eberle finished the tournament with 13 points including a beautiful assist on Crosby’s goal in the gold medal game, while Hall finished with and All-star nod and 12 points including 7 goals. Outstanding stuff and by the looks of things a much needed confidence boost.

Don’t forget that that Canada’s head coach is likely to be named the new head coach for the Oilers sometime this week and is now familiar with two of the Oilers stars and put them to good use over in Prague. Todd McLellan is likely to make a difference in the play of the Oilers with his system of play. By all accounts McLellan is one of the most respected coaches in the game, He came up in the NHL as an assistant with Mike Babcock in Detroit before moving on as a head coach with San Jose.

The Sharks may not have had much success in the playoffs but their regular season record in among the top in the league over the last number of years. Another sign of McLellan’s success’ as coach is the development of young sharks players like Logan Couture, Joe Pavelski, Tomas Hertl and Brent Burns. Burns was traded out of Minnesota and turned into a great player under McLellans guidance. I think he can do much the same with this young Oilers team.

The Oilers also have a new man at the helm, Pete Chiarelli has his work cut out for him. He has to improve the defense and the goaltending while trying to keep as much of the core around as possible. It’s no easy task, but he’s the man for the job (hopefully).

I’ve said before, and been heavily criticized for it, that the Oilers brass should consider trading Taylor Hall. OK OK, I was wrong I’ll admit it. Just look at the Penguins, one of their biggest problems has been finding wingers to play with Sidney Crosby, well Hall and Ebs proved they can play at speed with the best player in the world. Trading either of those two right now would be a definite step in the wrong direction. Because you know…..McDavid.

Yeah that’s right, in a little over a month Chiarelli get’s to step up to the stage in Sunrise, FLA and call Connor McDavid’s name as the first overall pick. A freeby, but we get to watch the guy who is trending to be the next best player in the world in an Oilers jersey, hopefully for the next decade. It’s all lining up, so here’s to some more winning!

I’ll leave you with these comments about McDavid from Hockey Hall of Famer Dale Hawerchuk

Dale Hawerchuk said it best. Dale told me that Connor McDavid skates like Bobby Orr, sees the ice like Wayne Gretzky and handles the puck like Mario Lemieux.

Thanks for Reading, and if you are reading this on Sunday night before 10pm Mountain, make sure to keep scrolling and check out the amazing McDavid picture from Pro-Am Sports up for auction.
