4:43 p.m.

What’s your emotion right now? Excitement? Nervous?

Nervous

4:47 p.m.

Are the Oilers considering trading down a couple of spots?

4:53 p.m.

The latest rumours are that the Oilers are in talks with the Blues for Shattenkirk and the Wild for one of their defencemen. RNH possibly going to the Wild.

4:49 p.m.

The Oilers are “in the middle of everything.”

4:58 p.m.

WheatNOil has it all figured out. Oilers, hire him!

5:01 p.m.

Lots of discussions happening between the Oilers and Blue Jackets. Seth Jones? Moving up to 3rd? David Savard? All kinds of possibilities.

5:06 p.m.

I thought this thing was supposed to start already? Let’s go, Gary!

5:09 p.m.

It’s official, folks: the crowd loves Pegula…but not Gary.

Capture

5:18 p.m.

As expected, the Leafs take Auston Matthews.

Matthews is nice, but he’s no McDavid.

5:19 p.m.

Trades!

Montreal trades Lars Eller to Washington.

Chicago trades Andrew Shaw to Montreal.

Looks like a lot of 2nd round picks involved in the trades.

5:26 p.m.

This is where it gets interesting.

waiting

5:28 p.m.

The Jets take Patrik Laine.

Laine and McDavid could have formed a lethal combination, but it wasn’t meant to be.

5:31 p.m.

Columbus is now on the clock. Will it be Jesse Puljujarvi, or will the Blue Jackets shock the world?

Stay tuned.

Hmmm.

Bathroom break?

Pleeeeeease?

5:35 p.m.

The Blue Jackets select with the 3rd pick Pierre-Luc Dubois. It happened!!!

Now don’t screw this up, Chiarelli! Run up to the podium and take Puljujarvi!

This is what we’re all really wondering:

5:42 p.m.

The Oilers take Puljujarvi!

YES!!!

party-hard

Here’s what Corey Pronman says about Puljujarvi:

Puljujarvi is one of the most exciting prospects Finland has produced. He’s a big, explosive winger, who was the second-highest scoring 17-year-old ever at the WJC, tied with Eric Lindros and a point behind Jaromir Jagr. He’s an unbelievable skater for a 6-foot-4 player, having a great top gear and a really fluid stride. He’s not that physically aggressive, but he closes on guys so well that he pressures and wins battles effectively. Puljujarvi shows a high-skill level, a plus shot and high-end hockey IQ. He is constantly around the puck and setting up his teammates.

5:49 p.m.

The Canucks take Olli Juolevi with the 5th pick. Didn’t think Tkachuk would get past the Canucks.

5:54 p.m.

Welcome to the Oilers, Jesse!

5:56 p.m.

The Flames take Matthew Tkachuk with the 6th pick. That’s probably the guy I’d have most wanted the Flames to take. Yay!

Everything’s coming up Milhouse!

6:01 p.m.

Corsi!!!

6:03 p.m.

The Coyotes take Clayton Keller with the 7th pick.

The Flames have acquired a goalie.

I like the way this Flames fan thinks:

6:24 p.m.

I got distracted and missed the next few picks. Most Oiler fans aren’t as interested now. I’ll continue to monitor the trade situation and any notable events.

6:35 p.m.

Rex asks the big question. (Was he listening to Dave in the comments section?)

6:38 p.m.

Indeed.

6:40 p.m.

The Devils take Michael McLeod with the 12th pick. Love the name. Not so sure about the player.

6:54 p.m.

It took a while for the Bruins guy to spit out the selection. Charles McAvoy it is at 14.

7:01 p.m.

The Wild take Luke Kunin with the 15th pick. Jakob Chychrun continues to fall.

Looks like the Red Wings might trade the 16th pick.

Seems like Detroit has take their allotted time. FORFEIT THE PICK!!!

7:12 p.m.

The Red Wings and the Coyotes make a trade:

And the Coyotes use the pick to take Chychrun.

Puljujarvi is saying all the right things:

7:47 p.m.

Well, one dream has already come true. Why not another?

Dream

8:20 p.m.

Remember how winning the draft lottery last year rendered all of our debates about Hanifin, Strome, etc. moot? Same thing happened this year when Columbus decided to take Dubois? All those arguments about drafting Tkachuk or Dubois ended up not mattering.

8:34 p.m.

The Oilers have announced that Chiarelli will be speaking to the media soon.

8:45 p.m.

Chiarelli is not speaking to the media.

9:04 p.m.

I think that’ll do it. Thanks for following along!
