Jordan Eberle Staying Put?

NFL: New York Jets at Green Bay Packers

We’ve been hearing some rumours that Jordan Eberle could be on the move. However, these rumours appear to conflict with what Peter Chiarelli had to say two weeks ago regarding his approach to today’s trade deadline.

I really don’t want to delve into that market. I think there are areas we can tinker with; I think the team deserves it. We wanted to be in the conversation. We are. [But] we’ve made a lot of moves in the summer, and they’re coming around. I’d rather see those play out…. [Deals] fall in your lap…but I don’t see being heavily involved in that market (source).

If Chiarelli is being honest with us, then it appears unlikely that he will trade Eberle today. This is also what we’ve heard from TSN’s Darren Dreger and Ryan Rishaug.

But what about Mike Commodore? He tweeted on Monday that the Oilers are trying to move Eberle. But who knows if Commodore actually has any insider knowledge or is just trolling the hockey world.

Scroll Commodore’s Twitter timeline and you’ll find more crazy stuff. Would you believe this guy?

Jordan Eberle Staying Put?

By the way, Commodore also has the Oilers interested in Jaroslav Halak, Zemgus Girgensons, Cody Franson, and Jarome Iginla. So basically everyone.

It’s been a disappointing season thus far for Eberle. But something to consider is that his shooting percentage is a career low 8.2%. Before this season, his lowest shooting percentage for a season was 11.4%. That was during his rookie year. So if Eberle could get some “luck correction,” we could see him once again scoring goals at a rate we have come to expect from him.

I’m guessing that Eberle will remain an Oiler for the rest of the season. But if he doesn’t pick up his production, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s traded this summer.

We wait.
