The 2016-17 NHL schedule has officially been released by the league. This comes less than a week after the Oilers revealed their preseason slate, which will run from September 26th through October 8th.
The club will open their season on October 12th against the Calgary Flames. The game will be the first ever NHL regular season tilt played at the brand new downtown arena, Rogers Place. The game also represents the first of a home-and-home set, as the sides will meet again two nights late in Calgary.
After missing last season’s game with an injury, Connor McDavid will finally skate in his hometown of Toronto and battle this year’s 1st overall pick (likely Auston Matthews) on November 1. McDavid also makes his first stop in some historic NHL cities this season, playing his first game in Madison Square Garden Nov 3, Chicago Feb 18 and Boston Jan 5.
The defending Champions Pittsburgh Penguins will visit Rogers Place on March 10, while the President’s Trophy winning Washington Capitals come to town on Oct 26.

First Battle of Alberta (Oct 12 and Oct 14), first meeting with San Jose (Dec 23), McDavid V. Eichel round two (Oct 16) and round three (Dec 6), McDavid V. Matthews round one (Nov 1) and round two (Nov 29), and the Heritage Classic At Winnipeg (October 23rd).
Quick Notes:
The Oilers season will conclude on April 9 against the Vancouver Canucks. The team will play nine back-to-back sets this season. The team’s longest home stand of the season comes March 4 through March 20 and will last eight games. The longest road trip will last six games and stretch from Feb 18 to Feb 28.
