The latest edition of the Subway Series started with a surprisingly low scoring game featuring two starters with ERA’s near or over five. The New York Yankees (62-55) used a pair of late homers to squeak out a 4-2 win over the New York Mets (53-63). The Mets will look to bounce back tonight as they wrap up their road trip and the Bronx portion of the Subway Series tonight. First pitch for the second game of the series is scheduled for 7:05 pm at Yankee Stadium.
The Mets will send right hander Jacob deGrom (13-5, 3.21 ERA) to the mound tonight. deGrom was great in his last outing, tossing 6.2 shutout innings to defeat the Philadelphia Phillies last Thursday. The Yankees will counter with right hander Sonny Gray (6-7, 3.39 ERA), their big addition at the trade deadline. Gray has lost his first two starts as a Yankee, including his last outing against the Toronto Blue Jays last Thursday, when he gave up three runs (two earned) in six innings of work.
