The New York Mets (57-72) took care of business in the opener of a day/night doubleheader, scoring a 6-5 win over the Washington Nationals (77-51). Amed Rosario played the role of hero, launching the go ahead homer in the eighth inning as the Mets grabbed the day portion of the twin bill. The two sides will be back at it tonight as they wrap up their four game set and the doubleheader. First pitch for the second game of the day is scheduled for 8:08 pm at Nationals Park. The contest will be televised nationally as part of ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball package.
The Mets will send right hander Seth Lugo (5-3, 4.85 ERA) to the mound tonight. Lugo last pitched on August 11th, when he gave up five runs in 5.1 innings against the Philadelphia Phillies, before landing on the disabled list with an elbow issue. The Nationals will counter with right hander Tanner Roark (10-8, 4.64 ERA). Roark won his last start, allowing three runs (two earned) in 5.2 innings to top the Houston Astros.
