9/10/17 Game Preview: Cincinnati Reds at New York Mets

While most of the sporting world’s attention is on the first full Sunday of NFL football, the New York Mets (63-79) will look to wrap up a successful homestand. The Mets have won five out of their past six games and four in a row, including three straight over the Cincinnati Reds (61-82). The two teams will wrap up their four game set this afternoon as the Mets look to break out the brooms for a rare sweep opportunity. First pitch for the matinee affair is scheduled for 1:10 pm at Citi Field.

The Mets will send their ace, right hander Jacob deGrom (14-9, 3.65 ERA), to the bump in search of his 15th win of the year. deGrom was hammered in his last start, giving up nine runs (six earned) in 3.2 innings in a loss to the Philadelphia Phillies last Tuesday. The Reds will counter with rookie right hander Sal Romano (4-6, 4.62 ERA). Romano pitched well his last time out, giving up two runs (one earned) in 5.2 innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates last Sunday, but was stuck with the loss due to a lack of run support.

• deGrom lost to the Reds on August 31st, giving up four runs (three earned) in six innings at Great American Ball Park.
• Romano, who was born in Syosset, New York, defeated the Mets on August 29th, limiting them to three runs in six innings of work.
• After missing the last six games with a finger injury, Amed Rosario is back in the Mets’ lineup. Rosario will bat sixth and play shortstop.
• Asdrubal Cabrera will get the day off today as he continues to try and play through a hamstring issue. Matt Reynolds will start at third base and bat eighth.
• Juan Lagares will get a rare day off today. Brandon Nimmo will slide over to center field and bat third, opening up right field for Travis Taijeron, who will bat seventh.
• Travis d’Arnaud will catch today as he continues to alternate playing time with Kevin Plawecki. d’Arnaud will bat cleanup.
• This will be the final meeting of the season between the Mets and Reds. The Mets have won the season series and currently lead it 4-2.
• This will be the final game of the Mets’ current homestand. The Mets are 5-1 so far on it.
