Every time Nick Evans gives the Mets the lead, an angel gets his wings. And then, all the angels fly toward Snoop Manuel in unison and beat the living crap out of him and demand to know why Evans couldn’t get any playing time when Snoop managed.
Maybe he could have been this good sooner. Maybe he could have spent his years bailing Francisco Rodriguez out of blown saves rather than waiting until now to bail Bobby Parnell out of blown saves. Evans had three runs batted in on Tuesday, each one giving the Mets the lead while bailing a different pitcher out. This must have been what the Mets had in mind when Evans was one of the players chosen to hit batting practice out of a still unfinished Citi Field in 2008 in a super secret session. (It was the one that supposedly convinced the Mets that Citi Field was a hitters park. It’s the one of the three great lies in baseball: “The check’s in the mail”, “I’ll respect you in the morning”, and “The balls are gonna carry.”)
Guess that night blindness has been cured.
