A Few Gifts on MacT’s Birthday

It’s Oilers general manager Craig MacTavish’s 55th birthday so I thought we could talk about potential gifts that us fans could get him to help improve the Oilers this upcoming season.

HPsauceThe first gift on my list is a gigantic bottle of HP Bold steak sauce. It’s one of my personal favorites and well you can’t be properly bold unless you do everything boldly. This steak sauce is a good start.

blue blockersGift number two is a pair or Blue Blocker sunglasses. First off MacT isn’t getting any younger and now that he is freedom 55 he needs to protect his peepers from those harmfull UV rays that the Oilers top six forwards of Hall, RNH, Ebs, Yak City, Perron and Gagner will cause by lighting up opposing defenses and goalies.

Okay, on to more serious gifts. How about a third/fourth line center, in fact let’s get a little more specific, how about David Steckel. The 31 year old center has a career faceoff percentage of .583 and has been a pretty decent penalty killer. In my opinion he would be a perfect fit for the fourth line.

Next on the gift list for MacT is a two parter; firstly a team to take Ales Hemsky from the Oilers before the season gets too old. If you listen to the podcast you know that I’m a big Hemsky fan, and I’m worried that he will leave town in a bad light if things go sideways with the team and he’s still around.

The best kind of deal is one that brings Hemsky’s replacement in the form of a checking right winger, but anything at this point is ok, maybe a few draft picks would acceptable and second and third rounder would be ok.

Secondly, if the return for Hemsky only brings in draft picks, let’s go out and get him a bottom six forward to bolster the group. Want specifics? How about Chad Larose? An off year statistically last season should help for contract price and he should be a player that can put up around 20-30 points and hopefully around 150 to200 hits. Making opposing forward keep their heads on a swivel.

The Last gift, and the most important of all; if I could I would give MacT the gift of playoff hockey this season. He’s a senior citizen now; the last time the Oilers made the playoffs he was 48 years old. Like the rest of us, we sorely miss the Oilers in the playoffs and if it goes on much longer I’m worried the GM may be too old to really enjoy the experience.

Happy Birthday MacT.
