An Angry Conversation About The Edmonton Oilers

So this morning an amazingly angry conversation happened between the Oilers Rig bloggers Jeremy Wright and Troy Martinson. They aren’t angry at each other, they’re angry at the Oilers. Not just the team, the organization from top to bottom is drawing their ire this chilly Sunday morning.

I asked them if I could put said conversation in a blog and they have politely agreed. I have edited out the curse words but that is it. These two bloggers are angry, just as I am and just as I suspect you are.

The Oilers made a few roster moves this morning calling up center Anton Lander and goalie Richard Bachman, this is how the conversation begins;

TM: Lander called up

JW: Bachman as well….They are going to need a run of 506 games in a row to be able to salvage this wreck and then play above their heads the rest of the season to stay in it?

TM: With team goal scoring up 0.33GF/GP having the team give up 1.5 more per game compared to last year is so disheartening. Lotta bounces last night both ways.

JW: Just complete garbage.

TM: 4 of the 5 goals were tipped in on Jason, but he needs to save that GWG. I didn’t care for the non-call on Yandle with a baseball catch at the blue line. It’s physically impossible for him to dive at it like that & not hold his hand on it

JW: I just don’t understand how it’s even possible that they are allowing 4 f’ing goals a game.

TM: Special teams are -10 & it’s time Dallas let his 2 carry over coaches from.

JW: They’ve had 5 leads going into the 3rd period and only 4 points to show for it. Who’s running the PP? Acton? OPEN AN EFFING COMPUTER AND WATCH SOME VIDEO FROM LAST YEAR.

TM: The last 2yrs of success. I left all my notes at camp! We haven’t held a lead very much Or, very long

JW: I realize the shot rates were a little low on the pp last year but at least they were putting pucks in the net. If (when) the season is lost there better be some serious changes in philosophy within this mgmt group. EFF “Oiler” hockey! 3 first overall picks and 7 years of suffering and this is what fans have to cheer for… Why again is 6 rings in charge? IMO, outside of Hall and Hopkins, NO ONE, should be untouchable at this point.

So this is the point that I notice this great conversation going on. Besides a few early morning twitter checks I was kind of resolved to the idea of staying off social media and away from my phone because quite frankly I didn’t want to think about the Oilers today, at least until game time anyway

DG: I’d add Ebs to that group too..Hopkins and Ebs are the 2 smartest players on this team! Best hockey sense and can drive the play..Hall is balls to the walls offense but not as brainy so to speak kinda like a bull that sees red. Problem with adding ebs to the untouchables is you’ve got no one else that will bring a return. Except maybe Omark.

JW: If you haven’t noticed I’m pissed. I’ve been silent because I’m gathering my steam to blow it all out in one foul spew.

DG: I don’t think there is anyone that isn’t pissed! Well at least there shouldn’t be. Actually I think maybe it’s good they lost yesterday because I was actually kind of complacent about the situation until then

At this point I decided that it would be best if I stayed out of the conversation and let Jeremy and Troy run with it, and quite frankly I was being thoroughly entertained.

JW: I have a friend who owns a place in Phoenix and also has coyotes season tics. When they signed Labarbera he said it was a bad bet. Boy was he f*&%ing right. Another indictment of pro scouting.

TM: listen, I’ve been sharpening my pitchfork & I’m gonna give the #6RingPrince a visit

JW: This organization has a foul smell about it. F*^%ng rot in the walls laden with hantavirus mouse s**t.

TM: labarbera was a career back-up with decent numbers & I’m trying to remember if he’s spent time on decent teams? I really liked Eager yesterday. Drove the play & created chances with some skill. Tell me how Omark couldn’t replace Gazdic on that 4th line for 8mins an effin night. This historic analysis of how a 4th line should be built & the need for 4th line deterrents is driving me insane

JW: Me too

TW: Boris, remember my 1^st contribution to this site. 4yrs between being drafted 1^st to the playoffs, when the Nordiques drafted 1^st x3 in a row, they never missed for a long time…oddly enough…all 3 of those guys never won with the Avs in 96…all trade…BOLD

JW: Labarbera had a .910 SV% in 45 games with LA in 07-08. Outside of the last four years in the desert he has been a pile of junk. He’s 100% a product of Dave tippet’s system. What a effing shi*>storm of a mess.

TM: The problem w/the D is simple. you have Petry as a #2, Ference as a fill in #3 but steady #4 & the rest are 5&6. Sorry boys, but unless 19 contributes on the PP, he’s useless in his own end. And you bet Boris, as is Smith. The Coyotes were leading the league in scoring, after the game last night, the Oilers were tied for 4th. WE NEED RENNEY BACK!

JW: You think Yak, Schultz, Nurse and a pick get Weber out of Nash?

TM: The Preds won’t take a Russian because, Radulov. But that’s a great starting point. nurse & jones would dominate for years, as Weber & Suter did.

JW: Might be a slight overpay but I’d be on the phone if I were MacT.

TM: I hope to eff they don’t extend Schultz long term.

JW: No effing way that happens. He’s not a good dman right now.

TM: It’s too bad they couldn’t have brought Eakins in as an associate, I like his style, once we get the effing puck out of our end. Phoenix PP was simple, bodies in front, puck on net. Oilers are too predictable. So many 1 timers given to the point, all for another pass. It’s not fair watching Calgary win, Calgary and their effing red light helmets.

So there it is. Can you tell they’re angry? Through all the yelling and curse words, there is some great commentary there. And my favorite part about the whole thing is, no matter how bad things get at the end it still comes back to poke some fun at the Calgary Flames.
