Carrying a losing team on your back must cause fatigue. You saw it in Jacob deGrom on Tuesday, as he went seven and a third hard innings against the Yankees where he threw 100 pitches, gave up five runs and two dingers, and even got frustrated at Travis d’Arnaud in the eighth inning during a mound conference with the infielders. Now, all he did was throw his arms out briefly, but for the cool and collected deGrom, that counts as frustration.
Don’t worry Jacob, we all feel it.
The Mets almost overcame the five runs, as Dominic Smith and Amed Rosario both hit oppo two run home runs, the former being Smith’s first major league home run which came off Sonny Gray (not bad), and the latter coming off of Aroldis Chapman (which is why the Yankees would have been wise to trade for Addison Reed in addition to David Robertson.) But it wasn’t enough for the Mets in a 5-4 loss, dropping both games in the Bronx.
Smith’s home run was especially satisfying as it came on the same day he got his indoctrination to the full New York experience. He got called “fat” by sports talk radio.

Welcome to New York, kid. Unfortunately he wasn’t around at the end of the game because Terry Collins decided it was more important to get Jose Reyes a ninth inning at-bat in a meaningless game because of righty-lefty and because oh my God, Dominic Smith is a … rookie!!! Think if John Farrell thought like Collins in a game that actually meant something.
Curtis Granderson went 0-for-4 with a strikeout, which isn’t exponentially skyrocketing his trade value like it was skyrocketing the past couple of games. That’s complicated, because the Mets acquired his potential replacement for the rest of the season in Travis Snider. So the Nationals had better hurry up and trade for Granderson. If you don’t know who Snider is, I’ll refresh your memory from R.A. Dickey’s 20th win in 2012:
The Mets also signed Neil Wagner, who they hope that people won’t notice that it’s Neil Wagner and not Neil Walker.
And one more bit of news: Seth Lugo has a shoulder impingement, which may or may not be related to his elbow.
Lugo's on DL with impingment, though this appears related to his elbow. Been pitching with partial UCL tear.

Awesome. As for the guy who is replacing him on the mound on Wednesday, he has the right attitude.
Asked about Sandy Alderson's comment that he needed to pitch better to return to Mets, Robert Gsellman replied: "I don't really care." #Mets

Why would he care? He knows that somebody is always going to get hurt.
What a team.
