The Minnesota Wild received some bad news when it was revealed that All-Star forward Zach Parise will miss at least five more games. Actually, it could be more than five games. After those five games, Parise will be reevaluated. In Parise absence, the Wild beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 1-0.
Before his injury, Parise went four games without recording a point. In 12 games, Parise has scored (7g-2a—9pts). Parise leads the Wild in goals.
Chad Graff, Pioneer Press — Zach Parise, the Wild’s leading goal scorer, will miss at least five more games because of a sprained knee ligament, coach Mike Yeo said.
“It’s going to take a little bit of time here,” Yeo said Monday. “Couple weeks, and then we’ll re-evaluate from there.”
Parise missed Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Tampa Bay at the Xcel Energy Center and won’t travel on a four-game road trip that starts Thursday at Carolina and ends Nov. 19 against the Bruins in Boston.
He suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament on a knee-to-knee hit in a 3-2 loss to Nashville last Thursday.
The Wild still don’t have a plan for using the available roster spot. They have 11 forwards and called up Kurtis Gabriel to make his NHL debut Tuesday against the Winnipeg Jets in St. Paul.
When I first read about Parise’s replacement on the Wild roster, I didn’t even recognize Kurtis Gabriel, nor had I ever heard of him. Taking a look at Gabriel’s numbers, they don’t jump out at you. They don’t really scream, the next person to be called up from the minors. It looks like he might be an insurance policy. In nine games, Gabriel has scored zero points (0g-0a—0pts) and racked up 31 penalty minutes.
