We have known it for weeks. Now, it is official. Connor McDavid is the newest member of the Edmonton Oilers. McDavid has been called the best prospect since Sidney Crosby by some, while Wayne Gretzky mentioned he might be the best prospect since Mario Lemieux. High praise, no doubt.
McDavid is different than the picks before him, Taylor Hall, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Nail Yakupov. While all of those players are good, McDavid is a generational player, one who can change the face of a franchise. From this moment on, McDavid is the face of the Oilers, no one else.
He’ll be on the opening night roster, likely as the second line center. He’ll be on a three year entry level deal, and he’ll be making the rookie maximum at the NHL level. He’s also got a chance to hit 70 points as a rookie, this kid is that good.
McDavid possesses everything you want. He’s uber-talented, driven, hard-working and down to earth. His offensive game is unreal, playmaking ability better than anyone on the current roster. He can pass like an elite set-up man, and has the shot to be a trigger man too. One-on-one, you can forget about it.
He’s the most talented player in this draft, and it isn’t even close. Connor McDavid is the complete package Oiler fans, he is going to be a VERY special player.
This is an elite offensive talent who is a smart hockey player. Again, the phrase franchise forward keeps coming to mind.
His NHLE is 63 points, suggesting that he will be a player who is an impact offensive talent right from the get-go. He’s ready to jump in my friends, I can’t tell you how massive this moment really is.
The Oilers, as of now, will be next on the clock at pick 16, which they acquired from the Penguins for David Perron back in January.
More as it happens, stay tuned.
