This was how hard it was for Jacob deGrom to get a W. He finally caught up to it on Saturday with seven shutout innings, while David Wright went 3-for-4 with two runs and a ribbie in the 4-0 win over Miami. Good for deGrom to get the monkey off his back. And good for the Mets to add this to their collection of wins. More of these and it will shine up the Mets record just enough to be able to display it on the mantlepiece when the in-laws come. You know … it’s still ugly enough to not be able to get five bucks from it at the pawn shop, but you can put it out and nobody will stare at it thinking “gee, why is there a decaying possum at the dinner table?”
