Bye-Week Blues for Ravens…

Terrell Suggs says the Baltimore Ravens fan base needs to “perk up” !! And you can understand why if you just go by the sports talk radio show calls bombarding the airwaves right now. “Fire John Harbaugh!! Fire Ozzie Newsome!! Trade Joe Flacco!!” and so on…

“We’ve got nine [games] left,” he said. “We’re still in second place in the division and we can still do some things. And I want to be here when we do it.”

Next up is the Pittsburgh Steelers at M&T Bank Stadium on Nov. 6. The Steelers sit just one game ahead of the Ravens and both teams are on a bye this week.

“Your greatest opponent always brings the best out of you,” Suggs said. “It’s a good opportunity to come back and play against those guys. Everybody knows what’s riding on it, so it’s going to be a big game. I want to be a part of it.”

Baltimore (3-4)  is riding a four-game losing streak, in part, because so many key players have been missing for the past two-plus weeks. The injuries began piling up during a 16-10 loss to the Washington Redskins in Week 5.

“We have a chance to, hopefully, put the finishing touches on a number of these recoveries and hopefully be as close to or at full strength coming back,” HC John Harbaugh said Monday. “That would be my hope.” Defensive leader OLB Terrell Suggs and offensive leader RG Marshal Yanda both returned to practice Tuesday. Suggs sat out of last week’s game against the New York Jets after tearing his biceps the week before. Yanda has missed the past two games.

“Who am I? What team do I play for?” Suggs asked. “I come from an era where this injury is just a bump in the road. This may be season-ending for somebody else, but it’s not season-ending for a Raven.”

Suggs returned to practice with a large arm brace on Tuesday.

Yanda returned to practice with his shoulder wrapped on Tuesday.

WR Steve Smith Sr. (rolled ankle) didn’t do interviews with media members Monday and wasn’t practicing during the portion of Tuesday’s practice open to the media.

Inside LB C.J. Mosley (strained thigh) wasn’t practicing during the portion of Tuesday’s practice open to the media.

LT Ronnie Stanley says his foot injury is seemingly healed. Offensive Line Coach Juan Castillo said Stanley had a great practice Tuesday, and added, “he’s ready.”

QB Joe Flacco (right shoulder) was back out at practice Tuesday. He said he will be at the Under Armour Performance Center rehabbing and strengthening the shoulder during the bye.

KR Devin Hester (hamstring) wasn’t practicing during the portion of Tuesday’s practice open to the media. He said he’s looking forward to resting it during the bye in hopes that he can return to practice as a full participant.

Safety LardariusWebb (strained thigh) wasn’t on the field for practice during the portion open to media Tuesday.

OLB Elvis Dumervil (foot) wasn’t practicing during the portion of Tuesday’s practice open to the media.

Meanwhile the Ravens are looking forward to getting more out of the younger players who filled in for the M*A*S*H unit last Sunday.

Rookie fifth-round pick Matt Judon notched two sacks and second-round pick Kamalei Correa punched the ball out of Jets running back Matt Forte’s hands on the goal line (only to be fumbled back to New York seconds later).

On Monday, John Harbaugh said they, as well as second-year linebacker Za’Darius Smith, “played really good football.” Judon flashed the most of the bunch.

After Smith flushed Geno Smith out of the pocket, Judon tracked down the mobile quarterback on the edge of the field to take him down. Judon’s second sack came in the fourth quarter on a stunt. Defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan cleared the way and Judon came up the middle in his gap.

“The guy has a lot of talent,” Defensive Coordinator Dean Pees said. “He’s raw as a rookie, as they all are. The guy plays relentless. He’s tough. He has all of the attributes that we like in a pass rusher. We were very pleased with the results last week.”
