So fan favorite Daniel Murphy is your choice to play second base. Good for you. You scored some brownie points with the front office and, with the immediate release of Luis Castillo, your Q rating with the fans is through the roof. Despite the fact that you’ve lost Luis Hernandez to waivers because he was out of options, and Castillo isn’t happy and vows to one day shove it up the Mets butts, you can’t worry about that now. Life is good and you’re going north.
Your choice seems to work out well as Murphy is providing some pop from the seven hole hovering around .300, and the Mets start the season 32-24 as an indirect result. Most surprisingly, Murphy’s fielding hasn’t been too bad heading into the June 2nd game against the Pirates. The game is tied at 3-3 starting the ninth inning. Conventional wisdom says to get your best defense out there and hope for the best in the ninth, but Murphy’s due up fourth in the bottom of the frame and his bat is tempting. Your choices:
Put Chin-Lung Hu in for defense, or …
Roll the dice and leave Murphy in, hoping his bat can win the game in the bottom half.
