Detroit Lions cornerback Darius Slay isn’t happy the NFL has moved the Pro Bowl out of Hawaii.
While the league has announced some awesome stuff for the game fans will love (such as dodgeball!), the fact the game will now take place in Orlando hasn’t made all the players happy.
Take Slay, for example, who blasted the move in an interview with ESPN.com’s Michael Rothstein:
“As long as my teammates really see me as a Pro Bowl player, I ain’t really worried because I feel it’s a politic thing anyway,” Slay said. “But I would just like to. But, I’m mad. Is the Pro Bowl even in Hawaii no more? It’s really pointless. That’s what I really wanted to do.
“That’s why I wanted to go. I’d rather just get the All-Pro status and don’t go Pro Bowl. Because I just really wanted to go to Hawaii, really wanted to just to go to Hawaii for the free.”
Slay should probably be more irritated he isn’t among the top five vote-getters at cornerback in the fan vote considering he’s one of the best in the game.
Alas, Slay has a pretty good point here as well. Players used the Pro Bowl as an earned vacation of sorts. Many players visit the state of Florida during the regular season, so it’s a little more drab when it comes to vacation locales.
For now, at least, the league will keep the game in Orlando.
