Dear Santa, From The Edmonton Oiler’s Fans

New York Rangers v Pittsburgh Penguins - Game Three

We know that hockey gods do exist. I’m not sure if there is a hockey Santa Claus, but if there is, I am sure there are many Oiler fans like myself, that have a list for Santa to check twice.

While many Oiler fans could be considered naughty for all the negativity spewed throughout social media, there are a lot of nice Oiler fans that would like to send in this list.

DEAR SANTA,

  1. Can you please bring us a bag full of fair refs? We are even willing to settle for consistent reffing. Connor McDavid’s breakaway against St.Louis had at least three infractions that are textbook penalty calls. I have no idea how the refs can look the other way. Either call it right, or at least be consistent
  2. Please cure whatever is affecting Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Jordan Eberle. We have loved these two players for many many years and we know what they are capable of. Please help Nuge and Ebs find their stride, because once they do, look out NHL.
  3. Please get it into Peter Chiarelli’s and Todd McLellan’s head that Jesse Puljujarvi needs to go to Bakersfield to gain some confidence. It will be a tremendous step in his very promising career. This is the guy who should and will be playing with Connor McDavid, but he needs to play and develop properly to become that player.
  4. Matt Benning’s first NHL goal. The kid is a tremendous young defenceman and he deserves a goal. He hasn’t been naughty at all.
  5. Can you please make people on social media stop talking about the Taylor Hall/Adam Larsson trade? It happened. We’re winning. Hall is doing well. Larsson is doing well. End of story.
  6. Please bring us Tyler Pitlick back without a long-term injury. Kid deserves at least one major injury free season.
  7. A new backup goalie would be a treat. Or let us bring Laurent Brossoit up for a New Year’s special!!!
  8. I don’t want to wish for anyone to lose their job, but could Drew Remenda and Louie DeBrusk switch jobs for the rest of their lives??? We love Louie. We don’t really like Drew. Nothing personal. (Ed note: We don’t actually love Louie, but after Drew, anything is better. Even silence.)
  9. Continue to aid Zack Kassian is his new healthy living. The guy is a great teammate and he gets so psyched. He can hockey too. He can fight. I’ve forgiven him for breaking Sam Gagner’s jaw. He should be an Oiler for a long long time. Plus, he gets pretty psyched too.
  10. Please oh dear jolly man, allow Patrick Maroon more time with his son. They’re both beauties and I have never felt a stronger tug on the ol’ heart strings than his interview with Gene Principe watching his son’s reaction to his goal…

WHAT YOU’LL GET, SANTA

If you can come through on some of these I can assure you there will more milk and cookies on Oiler fans tables than there are points from Wayne Gretzky.

I’ll put cherry tarts right by the chimney if you prefer those. And I think an Oiler logo would look really good on that wonderful red suit!

Thank you sincerely Santa Claus,

Love, the fans of the Edmonton Oilers.
