Bad enough ESPN chooses the Mets and the Nationals for a Sunday night game when the Mets have to play a day game in Atlanta the next day at 1:10 ET … abandoning all common sense to adhere to rules about picking games (ESPN apparently had three games to choose from for this Sunday and the other two matchups were either just as bad or worse.)
Bad enough I gotta sit through ESPN trying to rationalize that they picked this game not because they were limited, but because the Nationals were in the thick of the pennant race (6 and a half is apparently "in the thick" these days.) Think about it, they hype up "Hunt For October" with a dramatic music vignette, then show the Mets and the Nationals.
Bad enough I gotta hear a woman who found one of ESPN's microphones, yelled once in the second inning, and then after apparently being told by someone watching on television that they could hear her, wouldn't … stop … yelling!
Bad enough I gotta hear Orel Hershiser use the term "twerking".
But then the Mets bullpen had to implode and completely ruin their chances of sweeping the Nationals into oblivion as they blew a 5-2 lead in the seventh and lost 6-5. Worse than that was Jon Niese leaving the game in the sixth with a cramp in his leg, which supposedly isn't serious, but can you blame me for tearing sheets and boiling water at the mere sight of Ray Ramirez?
But hey … they signed Aaron Harang to pitch for the 51's in the playoffs. Awesome. And hey, Dice-K pitches tomorrow afternoon … no doubt causing all of us to make the same noises that the woman in the stands was making.
(Fun Labor Day activity: See if you can read this entire post in between Matsuzaka's pitches.)
