It’s nice to have baseball back after an off day. Although Monday wasn’t really an off-day … not when you flip on MLB Network and see Manny Acosta set fire to a 5-0 lead for Buffalo and turn it into a 5-3 win where the save for the Bisons was credited to the freakin’ rain.
(And you wondered why the Mets couldn’t find a trade partner for him.)
It’s sure as hell nice to have winning baseball, as the Mets defeated the Nationals 6-4 for their fifth straight win. Fifth straight win! This of course happened despite the best efforts of Wilson Ramos who hit two solo jacks off of Chris Young and had three RBI’s in the game. Young gave up three dingers all together, but avoided the walks which would have turned solo homers into grand slams, just like Jim Palmer used to avoid. (Yeah, that’s right. I just made a totally irrational comparison between Chris Young and Jim Palmer. Deal with it.)
Best part was the four relievers that didn’t blow the game to bits as Manny Acosta did in Buffalo on Monday. Finally, a game of Russian Roulette where every chamber was empty. And I gotta admit, every time I see Frankie Rodriguez in Washington I have debilitating Justin Maxwell flashbacks which cause me to go into the fetal position. Thankfully, fresh wounds weren’t opened.
Also on Tuesday was the annual Walter Reed visit, which the Mets, and I quote here: “unlike last year managed to escape without igniting a controversy.” So let’s see, if three players miss the visit then the Mets ignite a controversy. But if it’s only two, and none named Perez, Beltran or Castillo, then the Mets did their job in avoiding “igniting a controversy”? Makes you wonder who really did the igniting.
