Oilers 2, Rangers 4
Put the brooms away gang. A Metropolitan area sweep will have to wait another year. Yes yours too Wayne.
With the Oilers falling today to the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden, the Orange and Blue failed to become just the fourth team in NHL history to knock off the Devils, Rangers and Islanders in the same road trip.
This one got started New York’s way as Rick Nash would open up the scoring midway through the first but he wouldn’t be the only scorer in the period….

That’s right! The smiling pizza eater himself Jesse Puljarvi is back and showed that good things happen when you just get pucks on net for his first goal of the year.
Jesse also probably had the intermission interview of the year with Gene Principe

It would turn into a special teams affair after that as the next three goals combined would be on the powerplay.
Good ol’ Connor McDavid would give the Oil a 2-1 lead but then the wheels would fall off totally for Edmonton as first Pavel Buchnevich would tie things up on a brilliant passing play and then Mr. Nash would strike again to give the Blueshirts back the lead with just over two minutes to go in the 2nd.
Struggling to stay out of the box hurt Edmonton in this one and in the third the Oil got a few pucks to the net but just couldn’t get anything past Henrik Lundquist to send this game to overtime. Michael Grabner would ice things with two seconds to go as Oscar Klefbom before hand looked like Bambi on ice turning the puck over. Today was not a good day for the young Swede.
Player of The Game:
Has to be New York’s Rick Nash, the vet of over 1000 games (has it really been that long of a career for him??) was magic for the Rangers with his goal goal effort in the matinee afair.
Other Notes
-Is Oscar Klefbom hurt? I have nothing to really go on but it would explain his play looking off early this season. It could just be hitting a speed bump in his career, he’s young, he’ll figure it out and no I’m not going to even suggest trading him that would be silly.
-Edmonton falls to 0-3 in playing games before 2PM Eastern time this season, the more things change the more they stay the same…
Next Up
No time for the Oil to dwell on this game as their road trip continues by facing Alex Ovechkin and Co in Washington on Sunday before heading back home to welcome the expansion Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday night.
