Fewer Than 30 Thoughts: Offseason Training Edition

2015-01-11 00_18_33

This is the second installment of a series called “Fewer Than 30 Thoughts.” Yes, it’s a rip-off of Elliotte Friedman’s “30 Thoughts” articles, which are always filled with lots of great information and insight. This series will consist of fewer thoughts and a lower quality of information and insight. Enjoy!

Last time I mentioned that Mark Fayne‘s agent has stated that the defenceman will arrive at training camp “in the best shape of this life.” I haven’t seen any visual evidence of this, but hopefully it’s true. In this edition of Fewer Than 30 Thoughts, let’s begin with a look at what a few other Oilers’ players have been up to this summer.

1. There were rumblings that Zack Kassian was not in the best of shape when we joined the Oilers in January. That might have been a reason why his play deteriorated at the end of the season. I don’t know what Kassian looked like with his shirt off back then, but I doubt he looked as good as he does in an Instagram photo he posted this summer. Lookin’ good, Zack!

2. Nail Yakupov has been busy this offseason throwing tires…seriously. Check out the video he posted on Instagram. Look’s like Nail’s goal is to tire out the competition in 2016-17.

3. Former Oiler and Stanley Cup winner Justin Schultz recently took the Cup home to Kelowna, BC. Here’s a tip: before you raise the Cup, check your armpits.

4. Jordan Eberle is often criticized for his inability to get his shot off on the PP. Eberle has heard the criticism and, according to Bob Stauffer, has been practicing his one-timer this summer. Good news!

5. Connor McDavid has been working on his speed. (Like he needed to get any faster!) I’d say he could probably play on my ball hockey team.

6. Ben Scrivens threw some fire on the Oscar Klefbom comments regarding Taylor Hall. I thought hockey players were supposed to give boring answers to questions?

7. Remember Vladimir Tkachev? He’s in the KHL now. Take a look at what he did during a recent skills competition:

Until next time, folks: keep fit and have fun!
