First, stick tap to Brianvf for posting this on Sioux Sports. I guess this is an interesting way to look at the Frozen Four semifinal between UND and BU. Either team could have won that game and if a few bounces had gone UND way, there would have been a different result.
Andrew Merritt, CHN Reporter –And even that might be preposterous. BU won the Beanpot. It won the regular season Hockey East championship. It won the league’s tournament. It took care of business at its regional in Manchester, and it made North Dakota look like a pretender for all but a few madcap minutes of the national semifinal.
But BU was supposed to do all that, right? With once-in-a-generation talent Jack Eichel leading the way, BU was supposed to do all those things, to win all those important games, and then go to the national championship and beat a Providence team that couldn’t even reach the Hockey East semifinals, wasn’t it?
Yet there were a lot of times this season when the BU team that could be dominant was anything but. It needed overtime to beat Harvard in the Beanpot semifinal. It needed overtime to beat Northeastern in the Beanpot final. It needed overtime to beat Yale in the Northeast Regional semifinal. It needed Evan Rodrigues to score with 2:24 remaining to break a tie in the Northeast Regional final against Minnesota-Duluth.
This is why I am glad that Providence College won the NCAA title instead of the National Media’s favorite.
