I’m no expert on lineup construction. But a couple of things seem obvious to me:
- In this dead season that sees the Mets ten games under five-hundred after Daisuke Matsuzaka handed the Braves a 5-4 win by giving up hits to Freddie Flushing and the opposing pitcher, batting Ruben Tejada second while hitting Travis d’Arnaud eighth is criminal. Tejada isn’t becoming Paul Lo Duca circa 2006 anytime soon, and he isn’t bringing this team back from Zombieland. So bat d’Arnaud higher before he loses all hope and confidence and at least give him a chance to grow. And if he doesn’t, what cost will it produce? Blowing the season to smithereens? That’s happened already. It’s the development, stupid.
- Chris Young should be batting eighth … in beer league softball. So glad that “Mets sources” put out the “last chance ultimatum” before the Oakland series so that he could go right back to being a bum after his job was safe again. Yup … master motivation there.
And Bryce Harper thinks he hates the Nationals lineup? Ha! He should play here and experience real pain.
No, seriously. Bryce Harper should play here.
