After four days of counting votes (more accurately, five seconds of counting votes and the rest of the time creating the plaque), we’re finally ready to reveal the 2011 inductee to the Metstradamus Hall of Hate. The voting was close the whole way through, the final margin of victory only four votes. The winner, with 115 votes to 111 for second place, is …
Yup, it was a tall order for Jimmy Rollins to finally gain induction. He finished in second place in 2009 and 2010, and in the new format for 2011 he had to face the Wilpons, who probably should have been a shoo-in. But Rollins finally gained your induction this season after two years as a bridesmaid, giving hope to the Texas Rangers for 2012. Congratulations J-Roll.
As for the Wilpons, this just strengthens their chances for next season unless Jose Reyes makes his free agency decision at the Boys & Girls club.
Many thanks to all who voted all month, and we’ll do it again next year.
