Jeurys Familia Tosses Scoreless Inning In Latest Rehab Appearance

Atlanta Braves v New York Mets

The New York Mets are playing out the string, but their games could have some importance anyway. The big goal for the Mets down the stretch is to evaluate some of their younger players and get some game action for the veterans returning from injury. One guy who could be closing in on a return is closer Jeurys Familia, who has been sidelined since early May after undergoing surgery to remove a blood clot in his pitching shoulder. Familia aced his latest rehab appearance, tossing a scoreless inning for High-A St. Lucie last night.

This is Familia’s second rehab appearance of the week after he tossed a scoreless inning for St. Lucie on Wednesday. The Mets have previously indicated that Familia could be back as soon as the end of August, and he looks to be on pace to meet that goal. Familia will obviously need a few more rehab appearances and possibly demonstrate the ability to pitch on back to back days before he is activated from the disabled list. With the Mets counting on Familia to be their closer in 2018, the sooner he can get back to the big leagues and shake off some rust the better.
