Jordan Reed hid his concussion from Redskins during game

Cleveland Browns v Washington Redskins

Washington Redskins tight end Jordan Reed has an incredibly scary concussion history, so the fact he suffered another in Week 5 and missed the following game caused plenty of concern.

Now it gets worse—it turns out Reed knew about the issue during the Week 5 encounter against the Baltimore Ravens, but didn’t tell the team, according to Mike Jones of the Washington Post:

I got hit in the back of the head. I kinda kept it to myself. I had a feeling. I was feeling it throughout the game, but I kept playing. … Had a pretty bad headache.

The next day, I was feeling all right, then I was doing some exercises and I started to feel it worse.

Reed went on to admit those close to him have expressed concern, so hopefully he’ll properly address any future issues. He’s never played in more than 14 games in a season so the frustration is understandable, but one would hope his long-term health become more of a priority.

The league has done a better job with concussion protocol this year, but it still relies on players to disclose symptoms when they pop up. The system will never be perfect because players such as Reed will hide the issue at times. Reed admitted he did, so at least,  it might serve to discourage others from doing the same thing.

Reed has confirmed he’ll keep playing, though he’s not cleared until meeting with a specialist Friday.
