Josh Wilson is gone to the Redskins…and Joe Flacco has somethin’ to say…

BoltsBills

All of the speculation about Josh Wilson’s probability of staying with the Ravens is now free-agency history…

Wilson just signed a sweet deal to become a Washington Redskins…

What a great moment for both the Ravens and CB Josh Wilson when he intercepted a pass in OT against Houston’s Matt Schaub last year for the game-winning TD in OT…

The Ravens were going to bolster the cornerback position by re-signing one of their own unrestricted free agents – i.e. Josh Wilson or Chris Carr. Now Wilson is gone—at a reported $13.5 million, 3-year deal with the Washington Redskins.

Ouch.

That leaves fellow free agent cornerback Chris Carr

Carr is good. He’s very good. Maybe as good as Josh Wilson. But it still hurts the Ravens to lose a cornerback like Wilson. You can never be too deep at CB in the NFL…

Wrote Jamison Hensley of the Baltimore Sun: “There are plenty of reasons for the Ravens to keep Carr. He’s smart, dependable and versatile. But it’s assumed that the Ravens won’t be able to bring back both Carr and Wilson. Another snag is Carr wants to remain a starting cornerback if he returns to the Ravens. The Ravens can’t guarantee that.”

Well, now they kinda can…

With Wilson gone, Carr’s stock just rose with the Ravens… maybe they make an offer Carr can’t refuse?

Carr’s strong 2010 campaign, in which he started all 16 games and posted a career-high 67 tackles, established him as a legitimate starting corner.

Meanwhile, Joe Flacco’s statements to the press yesterday made news of a different sort…

Flacco struck back at the numerous haters who criticized him this offseason.

I don’t play this game to be average. I play this game to be the best, and it doesn’t matter what other people say, I think I’m pretty damn good,” said Flacco, who, by the way, has led his team to three straight playoff appearances in his first three seasons and is the Ravens’ all-time passing leader already.

Sure, Flacco hasn’t won a Super Bowl yet, but his toughness, leadership, stats and record should speak for themselves.

That didn’t stop NFL Network analysts Jamie Dukes and Warren Sapp from chastising Flacco mere hours after he met with Baltimore reporters.

Sapp went so far as to disparage Flacco for saying what he did when he hasn’t yet hoisted the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

“You can’t stand in front of the world and say that if you no hardware, you have no championship runs, you have no Super Bowl… anything!” Sapp wailed.

Oh calm down and shut up, Warren Sapp!

Joe’s just venting… you and I would do the same if we felt the entire NFL media world was ganging up on you or me….

The good news is Joe Flacco is finding his true voice. He is becoming a real leader.

As the Baltimore Sun’s Kevin van Velkenburg stated: “There was a genuine swagger to his answers. This was not a wallflower quarterback, mumbling his answers and perfecting the art of boring. This was a man who had just spent an entire offseason listening to people take little shots at his game, and now it was time to get something off his chest.“

Good for Joe. I really like that guy as a QB…and a young man in control of himself.

By the way, WR Donte Stallworth signed with the Redskins, too.

Donte’s parting comment: “I had a great time there with the guys… I really appreciate Ozzie Newsome and John Harbaugh for giving me a shot. I won’t be too far from the guys, so we can grab lunch some time.”

Donte, congratulations on your new gig with the ‘Skins, but you do realize… you’re buying?
