Keeping Up With The Condors: On a Roll

The Bakersfield Condors are finally getting healthy and now have points in five straight games. A strong win over the Calgary Flames’ affiliate Stockton Heat was the highlight of the week.

David Musil was called up during the week, but he didn’t play a game and was assigned back to the Condors at the time of this writing.

While the top two lines are consistently scoring, the Condors are still searching for scoring throughout the lineup.

GOOD ARROWS

-Anton Lander continues to absolutely light the league on fire since his recent demotion. Lander’s strong offensive performance has led many in Oil Country to rally for his next call-up. If he could literally get just 20% of his AHL production into the NHL then he could make a career. Had a four-point night against Stockton.

-Jordan Oesterle finally returned to the lineup and started producing right away. After missing the San Diego game, Oesterle returned against the Checkers to record an assist on the overtime winning goal before scoring the first two goals of the game against Stockton. The Oilers have had a ton of injury issues on the blueline in the big leagues, and one would have to think Oesterle would have been in the bigs again had he not been injured. Hopefully he can keep it up.

-Joey Laleggia is starting to find some offense once again. Laleggia scored the overtime winner against the Charlotte Checkers and had a pair of assists in the loss against Dallas Eakins and the Gulls. Laleggia is an older prospect that had a great rookie year last season. Laleggia is also not a strong defender, so he needs to produce to be effective.

-Some tweeters started to comment that maybe Jujhar Khaira’s early season production was inflated playing with Beck and Hamilton. With Anton Lander now on that line, Khaira was relegated to the second line and he still managed to pick up a pair of assists in the Gulls game. Khaira and Taylor Beck are likely the next call-ups if Matt Hendricks is dealt.

-Griffin Reinhart returned to the lineup last week, and by all accounts he has been much better since returning from injury. In fact, he earned some high praise from his head coach Gerry Fleming. “He has been our most consistent defender. He’s working really hard in practice. He’s become more competitive.” Reinhart will need to continue that strong play and work ethic to get to the NHL next year. If he becomes what Peter Chiarelli was gambling on him to become, than defensive depth for the Oilers will not be an issue for some time.

-The goaltending is still incredible. Laurent Brossoit had one great game and one average game, but overall he’s been consistent and solid. Nick Ellis continues to impress with another strong performance. Brossoit is ready for the NHL and Ellis is a solid starter at this level. Goaltending depth is strong for the Oilers organization as well.

BAD ARROWS

Keeping Up With The Condors: On a Roll

-Where’s that secondary scoring? Aside from whatever line has Anton Lander, Jujhar Khaira, Taylor Beck and Ryan Hamilton, the goals have been sparse. Joey Benik is the next guy on the list, but the Condors need some offence from the likes of Christoffer, Platzer, Sallinen, Russell and Chase. Chase at least scored a goal this week.

Pearl Harbour Jerseys. I’m not saying that Pearl Harbour wasn’t a tragedy. I understand that Pearl Harbour is like 9/11. With that being said, the tribute jerseys that the Condors wore were disgusting. That’s just my personal opinion.
