The Edmonton Oilers have made a few roster moves in the light of the fact that injuries and common sense are starting to catch up with them. Today General Manager Craig MacTavish called up highly touted prospect defenseman Oscar Klefbom, and put defenseman (cough) Brad Hunt on waivers for the purpose of being assigned to the OKC Barons.
Friend of the Oilers Rig, Matt Henderson, put is best with this tweet;
As always, the Oilers are about a week behind my decision making.

Don’t worry folks, Brad Hunt isn’t going to be picked up by anyone on the waiver wire, he’ll go down to OKC and do a fine job for them on the farm. Oscar Klefbom on the other hand is a player that made this team out of training camp, only to be sent down due to more poor decision making and the idea that, hell, maybe Martin Marincin should be playing in the NHL. The team was still quite at it’s senses though as they decided that having Hunt around was still a good idea.
I’m interested to see how Klefbom will fit in with the Oilers and where he’ll play. With the likely suspension coming to team captain Andrew Ference my guess is you’ll see Klefbom and Petry as a pairing and that idea sounds wonderful. Petry helped the development of Marincin in spades, I hope he can do the same for our new young Swedish NHL defender. (It’s ok my heart belongs to MM).
Oilers Rig Podcast
Before yesterday’s game Alex and I recorded Episode 5 of the Oilers Rig podcast, we talked about the homestand that ended last night, the recent line shuffling by Dallas Eakins and preview the upcoming road swing. Its worth a listen. Also worth a listen is the EPIC rant that Alex goes on about the Oilers and how they treat players coming off of injury, ti was brought on by this brilliant article from CoppernBlue.com’s Derek Zona. Make sure you give it a listen.
Oh and PS the Audio quality is much better this week.
