Meet the Blogger: Mailbag Edition 4

KG stanchion

Over the next few weeks, we’re going to reintroduce our readers to the crew here at the Oilers Rig. With a number of new writers on board, we thought it would be a good idea to let you all know who exactly is writing about your favourite team. Basically, we thought it would be a good opportunity for you all to Meet the Blogger.

You can read the previous installments here

Who is your favourite current Oiler and why?

Dave Gordon

McDavid, mostly because I can’t wait for the things he’s going to do in the NHL.

Jackie Dawson

Jordan Eberle.
He has ridiculously fast hands and can snap the puck top shelf faster than most. He’s also so silky smooth with those mitts of his, he’s A MAGICIAN!!

Like most Canadians, I fell in love with him at the World Juniors and his ability to be clutch every time he put the jersey on. Once he started playing for the Oilers…it was game over for me.

Alex Thomas

Jordan Eberle. He’s so much fun to watch and was a great guy when I got the chance to meet him while he was in the AHL.

Jon McLeod

The current Oiler I most enjoy watching is McDavid. His speed and skill has been even more impressive that I had imagined.

Megan Fowler

Taylor Hall. Obviously.

He’s just so good at hockey, and now he’s really growing into the role of leader that the team (and the fans, I think) expected he’d take. I don’t understand people who think he’s not very good, and I don’t get people who want him traded. He’s a superstar, and he’s ours until at least June 30, 2020, and someday, he’s going to hoist the Stanley Cup as Oilers captain and I will weep tears of joy.

Kelly (BLH)

Has anybody taken Justin Schultz or Lauri Korpikoski?

McDavid is my favourite player with Nuge and Hendricks closely coming in behind him. I think it’s not hard to see why McDavid would be anybody’s fav. He’s the best player to come into the league since Ovechkin/Crosby and from all accounts is slated to be the best since Mario came around. He’s Bure/Gretzky/Lemieux bundled up in an Oilers jersey and that sits about right with me given how bad they’ve been for so long.

Kris Hansen

Currently it’s a toss up between Taylor Hall and Connor McDavid.

Taylor Hall I decided back when we drafted 1st in 2010 I was going to support whoever we drafted and leading up to the draft I was firmly on the Hall side of things. He was also the second jersey I got crested and I took the gamble to get his jersey crested despite no confirmation what number he was going to wear. I also managed to get his autograph during development camp and a photo. It was really my first big name auto graph I ever had.

Connor McDavid was a player I decided that despite wherever he got drafted, I was going to follow and cheer for the player. I believed in the hype leading up to his draft year. You can imagine I was screaming pretty hard when we won the draft lottery. I immediately ordered a McDavid jersey, which I later got autographed at the development camp. He’s the only Oiler player where I have a jersey of each colour, which I got some ridicule from some friends but he’s worth it.

Taylor Hall is the pulse of the Oilers and has been for the last 5 years. He now has competition, but Hall’s passion for the game is second to none, and it just draws you in as a fan. He is a delight to watch, and it’s sad that he doesn’t get as much exposure as he should. He is now starting to get surrounded by enough talent that he can take us to the promised land.

Avry Lewis-McDougall

Connor Keyshawn McDavid (That’s his middle name right?)

He’s played in less than 40 NHL games and yet he’s already taken the league by storm. His vision on the ice is incredible, some of the passes he makes I have to slow clap for and he’s already danging goalies out of their jock straps.

At 19 you get giddy thinking about where his game is going to be at when he’s 23-24 years old.

Draft lotteries are good for something 😉
