So Much BS – Buyer Beware

miniponytwohorsesamerica

Draft Day 2014 is upon us, but so are the ridiculous rumors, and people trying to act like the rumors they come up with in their sleep may actually happen. It’s really hard to filter through all the crap that is out there when there is so much of it.

There are very few things that are guaranteed to happen today, and most of those things will involve 18 year old hockey players being selected by NHL teams.

Don’t get me wrong I love a good trade rumor but nothing infuriates me more that someone who has never broke anything starting to spout mouthfuls of garbage like they have flies on the wall of every general manager in the NHL.

If you read a rumor on twitter and it isn’t from Dreger, Mackenzie, Freidman or one of the very few people who work for TSN and Sportsnet that actually have the ability to get good information then chances are it’s complete BS.

So what are the Oilers going to do today?

After weeks of speculation (See what I did there, if I suggest a deal or a player that I think may be gone, I freely admit that it’s pure speculation on my part, it’s really that easy) on massive block buster trades and signings, I think it’s going to be a relatively boring day for fans in Oil Country.

I went to bed last night thinking it was more and more likely the Oilers were going to find a trade partner for the 3rd overall pick and MacT would be able to bring in a top pairing defenseman or that 2nd line center we all covet. Well I woke up this morning and with a clear head, now I think all we’ll see is the Oilers brass walking up the podium and taking their pick at 3rd overall.

I’m not even sure who they’ll pick. Bennett is good, Draisaitl is good, Reinhart is good. What the hell are they going to do if Ekblad is still available at 3? Holy Crap Batman, I don’t want to be in MacT or Stu MacGregors shoes today, they’ve got some tough decisions to make.

The Best Part

BOA

If the draft order stays the same for the Oiler and for the Flames, the comparison between who each of the two bitter rivals pick is going to make for some great conversation. Imagine each team picks a center, well those two guys are going to be analyzed with a fine tooth comb, for years, possibly decades.

I think the Flames picking right after the Oil is going to do wonders in renewing the rivalry that is the Battle of Alberta. There was a time when these two teams played that the respective cities would basically shut down, streets would be empty and local watering holes would be full, fans would be screaming at their tv’s, the refs, their children, who ever walked in front of the tube.

Nowadays the BOA games have been laughable snooze fests. The fact that the Flames and the Oilers are now both trying to re-build their teams into winners, and are both getting these low draft picks will hopefully make for some good drama down the road and on the ice. Get things back to where they used to be.

No matter what happens today, I’m going to be riveted to my phone, computer and tv, waiting with baited breath for the Oilers to do something even if it’s only making the pick at three overall.

Thanks for Reading.
